Rare French Blue-Banded Porcelain
Rare French Blue-Banded Porcelain "Chamberstick" Veilleuse, second quarter 19th century, in three parts, comprised of a small covered pot, a quatrefoil-reticulated bowl, and a tall side-handled "chamberstick" pedestal, overall h. 10-1/2", dia. 4-1/4". This type of veilleuse, designed to hold a unique glass tube warming device, is discussed on pages 74-75 of Harold Newman's Veilleuses: A Collector's Guide (New York: Cornwall Books, 1987, rev. ed.); an example from Newman's collection nearly identical to the present lot is illustrated in figure 110.
