S/n 326636. Bore clean good rifling strong action. Dark plum patina on metal (missing at tip) inspection stamps on barrel. All numbers and stamps on metal are clear. Cartouche stamps are missing from stock. Heavy varnish.

SPRINGFIELD 1873 TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Carbine in 44-70 caliber 22'' round barrel flip up rear sight saddle ring on left side and walnut stock trapdoor butt plate. S/n 88071. Bore clean good rifling strong action. 80% blue on barrel stamped V P over eaglehead at breech end US model 1873 on breech block. US Springfield beside Eagle on lockplate. Circle cartouche 1877 on left side of wrist. Small ''C'' just below lower tang. Cartouche ''P'' below that. Trapdoor has pivot type cover three part metal ramrod inside. Stock has good patina with only light wear. One drill hole on muzzle end of forestock one rivet missing on lockplate just forward of ''Springfield''.

Damage to forestock at second band. Heavy varnish and dark patina on stock. Metal has dark brown patina. Springfield on lockplate as well as Sn. and patent are faded. Barrel band letters and barrel stamps also faded.

Barrel has deep blue and proof marks at breech. Breech block shows great case hardened colors. US Model 1873 at breech square 1888 cartouch on left side of stock tiny x stamped in wood below lower tang followed by P in circlr cartouch. US on buttplate is hard to read due to light stamp. Lockplate shows Eagle and US Springfield. Wood shows few dings. Overall condition is excellant.

US Model 1873 at breech plug. S/n 416978. Bore is clean rifling good action strong. Barrel and wood have dark patina. Square cartouche on left side 1886 (hard to read). V P and Eagle head left side of barrel very clear. Eagle and US Springfield and 1883 slightly worn. Leather sheath for bayonet stamped US. brass 'US'' on belt clip. Leather is dry but not brittle. A nice looking combination.

SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR RIFLE, 1873Antique Springfield Trapdoor, presumed to be .45-70. Functions well, tight action. However, the metal has been nickel plated, and the stock has been carved. The cleaning rod groove has been filled and smoothed over. Total length 44-1/2" with a 25-1/2" barrel length. This is pre-1899 and can legally be shipped directly to the buyer.

SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Marked US Model 1878 on breech block 45-70 caliber 32-1/2'' round barrel long range rear sight walnut stock. S/n 247315. Clean bore rifling visible though weak strong action. Eagle and US Springfield on lockplate. V P Eagle head proof marks on barrel. Square cartouche on left side of stock. Dark grey-blue patina on barrel stock has some dings. Lettering is slightly faded though quite legible. A nice clean gun.
