SHADOW BOX DIORAMA OF THE ST. REGIS
SHADOW BOX DIORAMA OF THE ST. REGIS KING COLE BARA shadow box diorama of the King Cole Bar at the St. Regis Hotel, New York City mid 20th century Featuring a facsimile of a Maxfield Parish Old King Cole mural. overall height 10 1/2in (27cm); width 22 1/4in (51 1/2in); depth 14 1/4in (36cm)Provenance: Property from the Estate of Jack Levin, Los Angeles, California.Footnote: John Jacob Astor IV originally opened the St. Regis Hotel in 1904. He commissioned Maxfield Parrish to paint the Old King Cole mural for his other property, the Knickerbocker Hotel in 1906. After Astors death aboard the Titanic in 1912 and the closing of the Knickerbocker in 1920, the mural was moved to the St. Regis and the bar was re-christened the King Cole Bar. There is debate whether the King Cole was the place the Bloody Mary was introduced to U.S. cocktail aficionados, or indeed if it was the birthplace of the iconic drink.
Condition:
With Ganger hotel and restaurant supply label to underside. Brown duct tape at all seams. Not examined with glass cover removed. Apparently good condition overall. With slight fading and dust accumulation.
