He commissioned Maxfield Parrish to paint the Old King Cole mural for his other property, the Knickerbocker Hotel in 1906. After Astors death aboard the Titanic in 1912 and the closing of the Knickerbocker in 1920, the mural was moved to the St. Regis and the bar was re-christened the King Cole Bar. There is debate whether the King Cole was the place the Bloody Mary was introduced to U.S. cocktail aficionados, or indeed if it was the birthplace of the iconic drink. Condition: With Ganger hotel and restaurant supply label to underside. Brown duct tape at all seams. Not examined with glass cover removed. Apparently good condition overall. With slight fading and dust accumulation.
