(39) STAR AMERICAN 6-7-7-6-7-6
(39) STAR AMERICAN 6-7-7-6-7-6 PATTERN PARADEflag. Silk, ca. 1889. The unofficial American flag for North Dakota's (inc. November 2, 1889) entry into the Union. 24 1/4" x 15". Extremely good condition, no tears. Very bright colors, a few tiny spots of discoloration. This flag is quite rare because North Dakota was the 39th state, however South Dakota was added the same day, Montana six days later, Washington State on November 11, and Idaho on July 3, 1890. Due to the fact that new official flags were only issued on July 4th, this meant the 1890 flag had 43 stars. This flag was most likely printed to celebrate North Dakota's statehood. When SD was added on the same day, this flag became obsolete and ceased to be produced in less than 24 hours.

36-Star American National Flag from
36-Star American National Flag from the Benjamin Harrison Estate Worsted wool 55 x 96 in. 7-7-8-7-7 star pattern. Two names are inked on the hoist but neither can be clearly made out. Framed under plexiglass to 67 x 106 in with brass plaque reading Civil War Flag / Flown Over / Indiana State Capital / Corydon Indiana / 1865. The ''Indiana State Capital'' refers to the building which served as the original state capital from 1816-1825 though Indianapolis was the official capital when this flag was flown. The 36-star flag was made official upon Nevada's accession to the Union on July 4 1865 and was replaced two years later when Nebraska achieved statehood. The workmanship and non-standard star pattern indicate this flag was probably a homemade version sewn prior to July 4th so that the residents of Corydon could celebrate Independence Day and the admission of a new state with the proper flag.
