(Large creased area with tears at upper edge), left corner missing, grime/possible mildew to left edge). 4th group: more than 2 dozen loose albumen images. Identifiable subjects include the old James K. Polk mansion (no longer standing), Broadway, Fort Negley "about 1886", Fort Morton " about 1886," State Capitol, Nashville Chattanooga and St. Louis Rail car, Nashville riverfront with steamboats, the Pontoon Bridge and Ferry used while building the Woodland Street Bridge, scenes of the great Nashville snowstorm, Union Street decked out for the visit of president Grover Cleveland, the Andrew Jackson monument at the State Capitol; images from the building of bridges, and " The Cole Residence (later Medical Arts Building)". 5th group: 14 illustrated images of Nashville architectural landmarks (possibly taken from a book and based on Giers photographs) and 3 early 20th century reprint photographs of Civil War officers camped out by a tent (likely taken by Giers during the Union occupation of Nashville) along with 2 illustrated images of elevations of Ft. Negley. Approximately 100 total images. Note: Carl C. Giers immigrated from Germany and arrived in Nashville in 1852. Includes 3 CDVs with C.C. Giers National Photo Gallery stamp on back: A CDV front view of the Hermitage with dark figure on the porch; a CDV view of Jackson's tomb; and a CDV view of Rachel Jackson's tomb; along with approximately 2 dozen loose albumen photographs circa 1892 (the year Col. Andrew Jackson III, the president's grandson, hired C.C. Giers' son Otto to come and take some photographs of the home. The following year, Col. Jackson and his family moved to Cincinnati, taking all of the contents with them). These images include a stereoview sized print of a presentation sword and two chairs on the front porch, including the barrel back chair given to Jackson by President George Washington, along with multiple photos of Jackson's tomb (largest has full vertical tear to left side); slave cabins and buggies (full tears); an old portrait print of Jackson; photos of the interior of the mansion including the front parlor; the Dining room (full horizontal tear to lower third), the "Old Hickory" fireplace mantel, and Jackson's bedroom; an African American man, and Jackson's Masonic apron (note some of these are duplicates of larger images). Also included in this archive are 4 cabinet cards depicting painted portraits of Rachel and Andrew Jackson by Ralph Earl and George Healy (2 are stamped Giers Copy and Giers Art Gallery); 1 cabinet card of the entrance gates to the Hermitage; and one 8 x 10" gelatin print of a University of Nashville diploma signed by Jackson and other notable men of Nashville: Phillip Lindsley, Felix Robertson, James K. Polk, etc. There are also ten receipts dated 1892 from the Library of Congress stating that Andrew Jackson (Jr.) of Hermitage, Tenn. has deposited a photograph in the copyright office, all related to scenes from The Hermitage (presumably the ones made by Otto Giers). Box is titled, "Yellowstone National Park", these 30 stereoscopic silver gel photographs are mounted on stiff 3-1/2" x 7" gray cards in brown slipcase. The photos take the viewer on a trip by rail and horse-drawn carriage through the park beginning at the north entrance in Gardiner, Montana. Each card has a short caption description on the face. Includes shots of the park's iconic wildlife (grizzly bear and bison) and places (Mammoth Terraces, Norris Geyser Basin, Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone). Highlights include photos of tourists enjoying the thermal features in a manner forbidden today, including one man with a small trout on the end of his line turning from Yellowstone Lake to a small geyser, where he apparently intends to cook the fish. Cards have a short description on the verso, with more details on the recto, and captions translated into French, German, Spanish, Swedish and Cyrillic. The cards are in amazingly good condition, no marring noted. The brown cloth bound gold gilt slip case has slight scuffing, measures 2.25"W x 7.5"L x 4"H

There are several views of the Maine battleship afloat and sunk, other Spanish-American War ships, New York Harbor and New York Ferries. One NY card, looks like 1870s, is missing both top corners but has a unique New York City boat on it -- likely a ferry. Also includes a Boston Harbor sailboat scene. Most cards fine condition except the NY Ferry and another card with bend line in middle. A few smudges on cards, not enough to be annoying.

Washington, four of these by Kilburn, Littleton, NH. One of these shows the building at the base of the railroad line that goes to the top of the mountain. Parked in front is a wonderful stagecoach right out of a cowboy movie. Three cards show Western railroad scenes and there is one oversize card of Boston Harbor. All in fine condition with a few small smudges and soiling.
(2) EARLY STEREOVIEW CARDS, NEW YORK(2) EARLY STEREOVIEW CARDS, NEW YORK CITYTwo New York stereoview cards made by Anthony's Instantaneous Views, one of Broadway looking north from Murray St and the other of a yacht starting out from Hoboken with NY City skyline in the distance. The Broadway card contains a tiny message at the bottom saying "Entered according to an Act of Congress in the year 1859". The cards are albumen prints, which were being used in 1859, so it is possible that these two cards date that far back. Remarkably clean, flat condition.
PALATKA 1880'S PHOTOS, BILLS, ORANGEPALATKA 1880'S PHOTOS, BILLS, ORANGE GROVEH. L. Hart had a large citrus grove near Palatka during the late 1800s. In this collection are 20 or so letters, invoices, bills, orders for boxes of his citrus, primarily oranges and lemons, which sold for $2-3 a box back then. Hart also has on his letterhead that he owned/ ran steamships on the Ocklawaha river. A quick look did not show any letters connected to the steamship business. One depicts picking cotton in Florida, another entitled "Terrors of the Alligator Swamp", shows a poor man being swallowed whole by a giant gator with the man's body already 3/4 of the way down the gator's throat. He is clinging to a small tree; hope he was able to pull free. The last card shows an older man driving a cart pulled by a bull/ox which he is riding. The back of the card has its title printed: "15th amendment bringing his Crop to Town". Condition varies. Cotton picking has staining and darkening. The others show a little corner wear with some soiling and a few spots.
