[Stereo Viewer Brewster Stereoscopic Viewer An early Brewster-style stereoscopic viewer ca 1850s-70s maker unknown. Nice construction with frosted glass at one end a hinged mirror door on top to allow the entry and focusing of light and a hinged eyepiece. Viewers of this type were some of the first available invented by Sir David Brewster (1781-1868) who invented the kaleidoscope and made several other important contributions to the science of light and optics. Approximately 7'' x 4'' x 7''. The Ed Steers Lincolniana & Civil War Collection Condition: Lenses have been re-fitted and are glued down slightly off-center. Two or three minor hairline cracks in wood. Hinges mirror and frosted glass intact.
