AN APACHE BEADED STRIKE-A-LIGHT POUCH CIRCA 1900The native tanned hide pouch with flap fastened by a patinated brass button softened and smoothed from use is beaded in wine red, two colors of blue, white and bits of yellow and green on cotton thread creating floating chevrons in vertical rows.Measures 6.5 x 4.75 with a handle drop of 3.5 inches.Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair, light wear in some areas.Provenance: The 40 year collection of Father Tom Wiederholt, Kansas City, Missouri. Tom was a close personal friend of scholar and curator Ralph 'Ted' Coe who advised Tom on most of his acquisitions.

SOUTHERN PLAINS STRIKE-A-LITE BEADED BAG W/ ITEMSThe lot features a Southern Plains beaded hide strike-a-lite bag with striker, flint and starter from the late 20th Century. The bag shows a brain-tanned hide with glass trade seed beads in a typical Southern Plains geometric pattern showing an hourglass and cross symbols. The bag shows hand-rolled jingle dangle cones at the bottom along with several old trade beads at the long fringes including a large pony wound glass red white heart, cobalt, Cheyenne pink wound glass pony beads and several Venetian chevron beads (and a brass bead). The top ties / fringes show six Venetian multi-layer chevron beads. The flap is also beaded and has an old rusted metal button. The bag includes a forged iron striker, knapped flint and some starter. The bag itself measures overall 18"L with top strap and fringes by 3.25"W.

SOUTHERN PLAINS BEADED STRIKE-A-LITE BAG W/ SILVERThe lot features a Southern Plains beaded strike-a-lite beaded bag / pouch with large silver concho. The pouch or bag is comprised of thick harness saddle leather sewn with sinew in a traditional Southern Plains pattern with classic geometric beadwork with rolled tin jingle dangle cones bordering the top flap and bottom tied with Indian tanned hide. The beadwork is all sinew sewn and appears to be all early glass trade seed beads showing colors of chalk white, cobalt, sky padre light blue, semi-transparent red, greasy medium blue. The beadwork extends across the front, side edges and top of flap. The front of the flap has a large 1 3/8 inch diameter silver concho button, the silver content is unknown. The top shows Indian tanned belt ties with four brass trade beads. The bottom shows braided Indian tanned hide fringes. The bag itself is made with early antique material in classic 19th Century pattern, but likely either of a contemporary make or repaired and preserved old example. Likely in the pattern of the Southern Comanche or Kiowa. Measures overall including fringes 20.5”L, without fringes 7.25”L by 4”W. U6.

19TH CENTURY KIOWA BEADED
19TH CENTURY KIOWA BEADED STRIKE-A-LITE BAGThe lot features an excellent Kiowa Native American Indian beaded strike-a-lite bag dating to the 19th Century. This 1800’s, pre-1890, pouch or bag shows a traditional strike-a-lite pattern displaying a construction of harness saddle leather remnants with Indian tanned hide fringe and beautifully adorned with rolled tin jingle dangle cones, brass trade beads, and geometric traditional seed cen trade beads. The bag shows sinew sewing and 1800’s glass trade seed cen beads in colors of chalk white, red white heart, Cheyenne pink, greasy yellow, greasy green, sky padre light blue. The bag would have held a forged iron strike-a-lite “striker” and flint being on the user’s belt with the Indian tanned hide original top strap. The piece shows nice original patina and is in very good, well-preserved condition, showing little to no bead loss. Provenance: From the largest American Indian Antiquities collection in Montana where it was found to be an authentic pre-1890 example. The bag measures 10 inches long with top belt tie by 3.25 inches wide.
