AMERICAN INDIAN NAVAJO HAND WOVENAMERICAN INDIAN NAVAJO HAND WOVEN WOOL RUG: This fine example of pre-World War II native weaving uses both natural and dyed wool with a field crowded with different design motifs including what we now call Swastikas' in gray on a red ground. These designs have also been referred to as pinwheels and are an ancient symbol for eternity, not the evil connotation from war time. The stepped black lines have sometimes been linked with lightning bolts, or mountains or rivers. The diamond edge border in red, black and white tell us that this is a 20th century weaving as most earlier rugs had no borders. Measures 4' 5'' x 6' 4''.
