SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR MODEL 1884. .45-70 caliber 32 1/2'' round barrel rich oiled walnut stock. Marked U.S. Springfield with eagle on lock plate US model 1884 on top of breach. Inspector mark SWP over 1889 opposite lock. S/n 466961. Small N below trigger tang on stock. Larger P in circle 2 inches lower. VP on barrel. Numbering on sights is very clear. Over all condition of gun excellent.

Lots of dings and scratches on stock barrel is in good shape.

Overall length 52 in.

Overall length 52 in.

The gun has several makings including 10 over 284 on right side of stock. SWP over 1891 small stamp on left side stock above trigger VP on barrel by breach US model 1884 on top of trapdoor and U.S. Springfield and eagle on lockplate. S/n 209255. Bore condition very good normal wear.

Porter and dated 1882 additional stock markings include the number ''2'' five times and SPF D16 on the left side of the butt US/MODEL/1873 on the breechblock barrel marked with V P and eagle's head over a secondary P lockplate marked U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1873 with an eagle in front of the hammer. Note that later Springfield carbines retained an 1873 date on the lockplate.LOA 41 in.; Barrel 22 in.Overall very good condition with expected dings to the stock.Private Collection Knoxville Tennessee

Model 1884 Springfield Ttrapdoor Rifle .45-70 cal. 32.5" round barrel S/N 475567. 1884 dated breechblock no rear barrel sight a rear receiver sight has been added. Walnut stock. Condition: Barrel and action retains 90% of the original blue finish. Breechblock with traces of case color mostly turning brown. Walnut stock has had a coat of Tru-oil applied. Still retains a good cartouche; the stock has a cut out where the receiver sight was added. Bore is excellent.

Buffington rear sight.?Walnut stock with firing proof behind the triggerguard and nice cartouche SWP/1891.?This rifle was first produced by the arsenal in 1878-79 period and was later converted by the arsenal to the 1888 configuration.? This is a hard-to-find rifle if you collect Trapdoors.? Condition: All metal is very sharp and crisp and is a dark brown.?Bore is excellent.? Stock is good with very sharp cartouche.

Stock is dark with old dings does Not have cartouche. 1884 under Model and Springfield on lockplate are fading but legible.
