Lt. Thomas Tarbell 2nd USSS DOW Civil War Tintype A cdv-sized tintype of Lt. Thomas Tarbell with thin facial hair in frock coat with dark ''rubber'' buttons and brass 2/USSS/E kepi insignia. A large cloth 3rd Corps badge is also visible. A native of Mount Tabor Vermont Thomas J. Tarbell enlisted as Sergeant in Company E. 2nd USSS in October 1861 and was captured at 2nd Bull Run paroled and returned to the regiment in November 1862. Tarbel was promoted to 1st Sergeant in December 1863 and again to 2nd Lieutenant on March 13 1864 before being wounded in the Wilderness on May 6 shot in the left thigh. Tarbell was sent to Douglas General Hospital in Washington and later furloughed back home to Danby Vermont where he died on October 9 1864 from the effects of typhoid fever and infection. Condition: Some wear to plate where it once was matted plus slight wear along edges.

BILL TRAYLOR (AL, 1854-1947) 78 record sleeve, circa late 30's-40's, with ink drawing of men in top hats carrying canes, a running dog, running, bird crowing, two birds on stands, in black box frame, double glazed, OS: 11 1/2" x 11 3/4", SS: 10" x 10 1/4", good condition.
This is the last piece from a collection that was sold by a notable Boston area auction house. The pieces were examined and authenticated years ago by several Bill Traylor experts and folk art experts employed by a notable museum in Massachusetts.
