  An Antique Tantalus Set Fashioned from a stack of four antique leather bound books, fixed together, hollowed out and fit with two flasks and five small glasses, French, most probably made about 1860. The tantalus measures approx. 5-1/4"H x 8"W x 5-1/4"D overall. The lid has been hinged and can be lifted slightly with two braided metal "bookmarks" at either end.

  An English Victorian Brass Mounted Oak and Crystal Perfume Tantalus circa 1890 in the form of a tantalus having a tall back containing four small cut glass scent bottles; the base having two lift lids that open to a velvet lined jewelry box with brass mounts and swing side bail handles with open-work escutcheons. Height 8 1/4 x width 10 x depth 7 1/2 inches.

Composed of an overall ormolu foundation with scrolled rococo feet and embossed scrolled floral motifs along the base. Further fitted with etched crystal panels in Symmetrical, geometric designs along with floral detailing along the corners. At the corners of each panel are spindled finials. Finished with textured detailing throughout. The box, opened by a key, opens to reveal the interior ormolu foundation, securing the 16 crystal cordials and the 4 decanters. Each crystal piece is embellished with gilded, brain coral patterns and gilded detailing. Securing the cordials are winding tree branch motif railings. The bottom of the foundation is a glass panel with mounted ormolu feet. CIRCA: Mid-Late 19th Ct.
