CHARLES VOLZ OIL ON CANVAS,
CHARLES VOLZ OIL ON CANVAS, FRAMEDCharles Volz "Taos Mountain in the Spring" framed oil on canvas; measures approximately 15-5/8" x 17-1/2" with a sight image of approximately 7-7/16" x 9-5/16", signed to lower left. Charles Volz was born in Portland, Oregon and studied art at the University of Oregon and German at the University of California, Berkeley. He lived for several years in Germany during which time he painted in abstract expressionist style. Upon returning to this country Volz rediscovered the beauty of the western landscape and found that responding to his impressions in paint was a natural and extremely gratifying thing to do. Although representational, his work at this time is less literal than interpretive. Volz paints outside on location as much as possible for the spontaneity and immediacy which come from working directly from nature. Regarding subject matter, he is drawn to the contrasts of compliments in nature's diverse elements and the overall sense of balance there.
