Polynesian Tapas lot of 3 one tapa has been cut into two smaller pieces 30.25 x 57 in.; AND a larger piece 59 x 57 in. Lot accompanied by handwritten note: TAPA is cloth made from fibrous?bark. Polynesian in origin - This was given by a teacher to Blanche Verbeck. ?The friend lived and taught i Hawaii many years from 1920's to ? This is pre World War II TAPA.? Condition: Couple corner folds; couple small tears in creases where folded.

WOMAN'S CEREMONIAL TAPIS, INDONESIAAntique Woman's ceremonial sarong, "tapis kaca", bands of "naga" motifs alternating with bands of "cumi cumi (squid) inuh" embroidery, cotton, gold-wrapped thread, silk thread and appliqued micas, Lampung, Sumatra. Tapis are heavily ornamented ceremonial sarongs made and worn by women in the south Sumatran province of Lampung, Indonesia. Tapis are made from cloth strips that are woven by hand from dyed cotton and silk threads, then sewn together into a tube, and finally decorated with gold, silk, mirrors, and other precious materials. Size: 48'' x 52'' (122 x 132 cm).
