RARE MAINE SCHOOL TEACHER SATIRICAL DRAWINGS, CA 1870S Two panels in the same frame, India ink and watercolor on paper, unsigned, with unruly students being addressed by a teacher, having the captions : "A New Eng. School in the late 60's. The biggest scholar: So you're the new Teacher? Wa-al! I guess you won't last no longr'n the rest on'um; Us fellars has licked 'em all, one after t'other" PLUS "Chris Page, Up the Penobscot. The new Teacher: "Now, children, you may take your seats, after which we will commence the day's exercises by singing that beautiful song, beginning - 'We are happy little scholars and we like our pleasant school; And we love our gentle teacher and obey his kindly rule" (as he crushes one student down on his desk). In grey and wine painted deep cove frame, under glass. OS: 33" x 27 1/2", SS: 27 1/2" x 22", toned. Unique!

British school, ca. 1845 A delicately rendered pair of miniature profile portraits of a man and a woman, pencil on card with white highlighting and hints of color, each approx. 5-1/2" x 4-5/8", framed in gilt period frames under rolled glass overall approx. 6-1/2" x 5-5/8". The man's portrait is unsigned, and the woman's portrait is signed "Margaret Dymond" and dated 1845. Each has a vintage label on the back from Scott, Heydon, & Co., London.
