TELESCOPE CANE FIELD GLASSESCa.
TELESCOPE CANE FIELD GLASSESCa. 1900-Small paper box labeled on the front side “Fernseher, an jedem Spazierstock anzubringen” or “Telescope, which can be attached to any cane” and on the back with the instructions manual in German. The box contains two lenses, which can be mounted on any kind of stick trough clamping brass mounts. One of those ingenious and odd creations, when numerous patents for optical instruments in canes have been titled and with the added value of the original box and initial invoice issued by a Viennese retailer to Mr. Simon Pisarek and dated 13/IV, 1909. In her book “Cane Curiosa, From Gun To Gadget” Catherine Dike records a similar item in Chapter 9, Optical Instruments. The original label illustrated in the book seems more elaborate than the one on the back of the box and let us safely assume that this particular example might be a little older. Box 5” x 3 ¼”
