Depicts Christ's deposition, or His removal from the cross by attendants and apostles towards The Virgin Mother, Mary Magdalene, and Salome who mourn at his feet. Inscription reading "The Descent of the Cross" Painted in the Cathedral at Antwerp. From Rubens Masterpiece. By W.H. Howard, Sept. 1894" and stamp for "Geo. Rowney & Co. London, W." en verso. Housed in an ornate gilt and gesso frame with cartouche decoration and acanthus leaf corners. Sight: 35 1/2" H x 27 1/2" W. Framed: 44 3/4" H x 37" W. Note: The original version of this painting remains housed in the Cathedral of Our Lady, Antwerp, Belgium, where this copy was painted.

Craquelure due to thick varnish, no restoration or retouching. Frame with wear and scattered gilt loss.

Condition:
The print is in generally good condition. There are no rips or restorations. When inspected under a UV light there were no issues. The sheet is slightly toned. There is a crease running horizontally along the center where it appears the print was possibly folded. There is some light soiling along the margins. Some undulation to the sheet. The print is hinged to the mat in six places; along all four corners and along the middle of the right and left margins. Due to the way the sheet is hinged, the verso has not been inspected. The print is floated in the frame. There is some wear to the mat, some threads are loose along the extreme margins. There is an area of possible moisture on the bottom right hand corner of the mat that does not affect the print. The artwork is framed; some light wear to the frame; frame behind glass.
