BOOK: COUNTESS DESMOND,
BOOK: COUNTESS DESMOND, SAINTHILL, 1861, DROMOLANDOld Countess of Desmond by Richard Sainthill, University Press, London, 1861. Bound in 3/4 leather with marbled boards. Measures 8 1/2" tall. Some wear to covers and foxing throughout. Part of a collection of books from Dromoland Castle in today's sale. Provenance: Dromoland Castle, County Clare, Ireland. From the library of Sir Edward O'Brien, 2nd Baronet (1705-1765), inherited by his son, Sir Lucius O'Brien, 3rd Baronet (1731-1795), then by his son, Sir Edward O'Brien, 4th Baronet (1773-1837). The library was pretty much intact until 1962, when Donough O'Brien, the 16th Baron Inchiquin, was forced to sell the castle and its contents at public auction. The December 1962 sale -- conducted by James Adams & Sons of Dublin -- was attended by Gioia Marconi Braga, the daughter of Beatrice O'Brien and inventor Guglielmo Marconi. O'Brien was the daughter of the 14th Baron Inchiquin (1839-1900). Braga purchased a number of volumes from the auction and brought them to the U.S. Thence by descent in the family. shipping info This lot can be shipped in-house.

COUNTESS OF HARRINGTON HN3317 -
COUNTESS OF HARRINGTON HN3317 - ROYAL DOULTON FIGURINEThe Countess of Harrington wears a Grecian style silk gown with a scarf trim which matches the plume in her hair. The wreath she carries is made of hand-carved and hand-painted flowers. Reynolds Ladies is a series inspired by the portraits of Sir Joshua Reynolds and designed by Peter Gee. The pieces were each introduced in a limited edition of 5,000 from 1991-1993. Over two centuries ago, Joshua Reynolds reached the pinnacle of success as a great portrait painter for high society in London. His work, remarkable for its expressive qualities and richness of color, has survived through many generations to be enjoyed today as much as it was then. Royal Doultons series represents an equally outstanding achievement - again, almost two centuries of enduring art and a heritage which remains unsurpassed. This beautiful collection of four prestigious, limited edition figures is a tribute to these two traditions, bringing together the portraits of Joshua Reynolds and the ceramic Artistry of Royal Doulton. The collection, first introduced in 1991 in a limited edition of 5,000; required considerable dedication, research and commitment to transform the subjects of four Reynolds portraits into figures. This is a collection for the connoisseur - an exceptional marriage of fine art, past and present. - Reynolds Ladies Artist: Peter Gee

Countess Zichy, as she became known commercially, demonstrated a fair amount of artistic talent at a young age, enough to warrant studies with Mixsa (Max) Thein, a noted Budapest painter and teacher of the time, when she was only twelve. At the age of fourteen she became a student at the Fine Arts High School (Kepzomuveszeti Foiskola) of Budapest. She also studied privately with Imre Revesz. She next went to Paris and studied at the Academie de la Grand Chaumiere under Rene Menard and Castellucio. On return to Hungary she was a student for a time starting in 1908 at the Royal Hungarian Academy, now the National Academy of Art and with Janos Molnar Pentelei. She worked in Munich in the school of Herrmann Groeber and at the Knirr School. Countess Zichy died on a visit to Europe on the twentieth of July 1962 in Baden Baden, Germany, at 69 years of age.

Diane Corisande de Andoins Mistress
Diane Corisande de Andoins Mistress of Henri IV DS Diane d'Andoins (1554-1621) who preferred to be called Corisande (and was usually referred to as La Belle Corisande) apparently from a fictional romantic figure became the mistress of Henri of Navarre who became Henri IV the first Bourbon king of France.
