Japanese carved gilt wood Buddha, right hand performing vitarka mudra with two attendants, one with hands clasped, one holding vessel, hair with blue pigment, all three standing on lotus throne floating on clouds, flames behind them, all on a two-tier waisted base, possibly from a zushi (traveling shrine), 19th century, 13-1/2 x 7-3/4 x 5 in. Flames and one ribbon on attendant reattached, chips, separations, possibly lacking elements, some repairs. Descended through family from great-uncle, John H. Baxter, New Hampshire (originally from England); purchased from New York or California estate in 1930s.
