[VERBAL PROVENANCE: Owned by descent in Thayer/ Talbott family.][NOTE: the subject, John Thayer III, was the brother of Margaret Thayer (1898–1960), later Mrs. Harold Elstner Talbott Jr.), and was a first-class passenger on RMS Titanic along with his mother, father and maid, who survived after the ship struck an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912. He was one of only forty individuals to survive jumping into the sea, and sadly his father did not survive the sinking.
