PERIOD CARTE DE VISITE COLLECTION FOCUSED ON ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND HIS FAMILY The collection's fifty images are housed in a deluxe tooled leather album patented by William W. Harding of Philadelphia on October 17, 1865; embellishments include heavily gilt page edges, faux pearls inset on the boards, and ornate gilt floral patterns throughout; the CDVs consist of both photographs and lithographs, sometimes in multiples variously having or lacking a distributor's backmark. Eleven (11) images depict Lincoln by himself; while over twenty (20) repeating images show Lincoln with his family; other topics present are Lincoln's deathbed scene, his apotheosis to heaven and a welcome by George Washington; the Peace Commission of 1865; an Indiana well dug by Lincoln during his youth; the Lincolns' Springfield home; U.S. Grant with a child (usually labeled "Grant in Peace").

Lot. (Abraham Lincoln.) Textile Scraps from the Funeral Car of Abraham Lincoln. In 19th-Century ink-lettered envelope, "Scraps from the funeral car of Mr. Lincoln - April 1865." This envelope was removed from a scrapbook assembled by Green Adams. Born in Barbourville, Kentucky, Adams served as a Federal judge & U.S. Congressman before The Civil War. During The Civil War, Adams supported the Union cause & corresponded with President Lincoln. Three letters from Lincoln to Adams are housed in The Civil War Museum & Library in Philadelphia. A letter outlining this history & provenance is available from Adams's great, great-granddaughter.

[Political Americana - Lincolniana] Our American Cousin Broadside 18.5'' x 6.25'' framed to 8.5'' X 23.25''. Advertising a performance of the popular play Our American Cousin the same play at which President Lincoln was assassinated on April 14th the same day he was shot but at Harvard's Howard Athenaeum two in 1863 two years prior to the assassination. This performance starred Mr. John E. Owens and the broadside notes that colored people will be admitted but to the gallery only. Barnes, present Trustee," board: 16"h x 20"w, overall (with frame): 18.5"h x 22.25"w. Provenance: Estate of Joanna Barnes and Jack Warner (Santa Barbara, California). Ms. Barnes was a Hollywood film actress featured in movies such as "Auntie Mame (1958)" and "The Parent Trap (1961)". Mr. Warner was a prominent architect.

[Political Americana - Lincolniana] Herbert Georg Studio Album of Early New Salem IL Businesses & Homes Including Lincoln-Berry Store An album of 25 8'' x 10'' photographs of the reconstructed homes at New Salem Illinois the small village where Lincoln began his adult life and from where he was first elected to public office. Lincoln lived in the town in the 1830s and it had nearly disappeared by the second half of the 19th century. During the Great Depression it was rebuilt by the Civilian Conservation Corps as a memorial to the former president and the frontier way of life and these photographs by noted Springfield photographer Herbert George were taken shortly after the project's completion.
