SIR LUKE FILDES "THE DOCTOR"
SIR LUKE FILDES "THE DOCTOR" LITHOGRAPHSir Luke Fildes (English, 1844-1927) black and white lithograph based on the 1887 painting "The Doctor". It depicts a concerned doctor sitting beside a sick child who is resting on a makeshift bed of chairs and blankets. In the darkened room, you can see the parents to the right. The father is comforting the distraught mother. The image is altogether optimistic: dawn has broken and the child has lived through the night. The lithograph is framed under glass. Wooden frame measures 23" in height by 30" in width with the sight image measuring 18-1/4" in height by 24-1/4" in width. All measurements are approximate. Sir Luke Fildes (1844-1927) was an English painter and illustrator born in Liverpool and trained at the South Kensington and Royal Academy schools. He was the grandson of the political activist Mary Fildes.
