SIX YEARS WITH THE TEXAS RANGERS,
SIX YEARS WITH THE TEXAS RANGERS, JAMES B. GILLETTFeatured in this lot is a First Edition of "Six Years With The Texas Rangers", by James Gillett, publisher Yale University Press 1925. A fascinating account of one Ranger's life attempting to maintain law and order on the Texan frontier. James Buchanan Gillett (1856-1937) was a lawman of the Old West, mostly known for his service as a Texas Ranger. He is a member of the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame. This edition features a photograph of the author on page 238. Long considered one of the classic memoirs by a Texas Ranger. The rangers were founded in 1823 when Stephen F. Austin, known as the Father of Texas, employed ten men to act as rangers to protect 600 to 700 newly settled families who arrived in Mexican Texas following the Mexican War of Independence. Blue cloth bound gold gilt hardcover exhibits scuffing to edges and minimal soiling. Age tanning observed to intact pages, no other obvious marring noted. Measures 6.25"W x 9.5"L x 1"D
