SEAMAN'S JOURNAL KEPT BY CAPT. DAVID LOW OFNewburyport, on a voyage from Boston to Matanzas on the ship Courser, commanded by John Lore. The voyage began in 1829 and terminated in 1830. The second part of the journal is for a voyage from Boston to Havana, Havana to Antwerp, Antwerp to Matanzas, etc. Some pages are torn and there is some foxing. 12 1/2" x 8". The text deals mostly with the weather and locations. Provenance: Webb estate.

The Captains discussing their upcoming voyage on the ship Dashing Wave to Hong Kong, Canton and Calcutta, departing Derby Wharf May 4 1841. Several active American ships visible in the distant harbor. All framed within a scrimshaw and titled banner border "American Seamen's Friend Society." Signed lower right R. Cahoon PINXT, in black molded wood frame.

Marked on base ''Made in England Royal Doulton England The Seafarer H N 2455 Doulton & Co LIMITED Rd No 953117 RdNo 59528 RdNo 12645 RdNo 779/71''. Sold along with a vintage model boat depicting the Oil Screw Tug Boat ''Joy''. Original boat built 1924 owned in Hong Port NY NY. Boat is on wooden stand and is marked ''Joy'' on either side near the bow. Conditions: Royal Doulton figurine is good no chips cracks or crazing model boat shows signs of age: some minor loss to paint tarnishing and discoloration to finish in areas some losses see images. Royal Doulton figurine measures 8.75'' tall x 4.75'' wide. Tug boat model measures 15.25'' long (stand 17.25'' long) x 3.25'' wide. Shipping weight 5.3 lbs.

Signed at lower left corner. Circa mid-20th century. Bachelor was a US Navy veteran who later studied at Miami Art School with Emile Roure.
