[VERBAL PROVENANCE: Owned by descent in Thayer/ Talbott family.][NOTE: the subject, John Thayer III, was the brother of Margaret Thayer (1898–1960), later Mrs. Harold Elstner Talbott Jr.), and was a first-class passenger on RMS Titanic along with his mother, father and maid, who survived after the ship struck an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912. He was one of only forty individuals to survive jumping into the sea, and sadly his father did not survive the sinking. Thayer later wrote and privately published his recollection of the sinking in a pamphlet titled "The Sinking of the S.S. Titanic". TITANIC SURVIVOR AUTOGRAPHED 1912 BOOK1912 Titanic book signed by Millvina Dean (British, 1912-2009), the youngest survivor of the disaster. Signature is dated March 14, 1998. The Sinking of the Titanic was one of the first books written after the ship sank. Often referred to as a "door-to-door" book, as it was sold to people by direct sales people while news of the tragedy was fresh on their minds. Book is in fair to about good condition. Signature obtained by consignor's direct correspondence with Dean, and it is unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic. Some overall wear and discoloration, some stained pages. US WWII Autographs Lot of Three Lot includes: Paul Tibbets pilot of the Enola Gay and two crew members from the USS Indianapolis KURYLA Michael N. Kuryla Jr. Cox and Robert M. McGuiggan S/1. Of the 1 196 aboard the Indianapolis about 900 made it into the water in the twelve minutes before she sank. Few life rafts were released. Most survivors wore the standard kapok life jacket. Shark attacks began with sunrise of the first day and continued until only 316 men were still alive when rescued almost five days later. Condition: Very good.
