THOMAS ROWLANDSON DR. SYNTAX
THOMAS ROWLANDSON DR. SYNTAX ETCHINGS SET OF SIXThomas Rowlandson (English, 1756 - 1827) framed hand colored etchings from the "Tours of Dr. Syntax", including: "Doctor Syntax Setting Out in Search of a Wife", "Dr. Syntax in Danger", "Dr. Syntax Copying the Wit of the Window", "Dr. Syntax and the Bees", "Dr. Syntax Entertained at College", and "Dr. Syntax Pursed by a Bull". All six etchings are matted and framed identically under glass in wooden frames that measure 9" in height by 11" in width with the sight images measuring 4-1/2" in height by 6-1/2" in width except for "Doctor Syntax Setting Out in Search of a Wife" which is framed vertically and therefore measures 11" in height by 9" in width with the sight image measuring 6-1/2" in height by 4-1/2" in width. All measurements are approximate. The "Tours of Dr. Syntax" were published several times over an approximately 80 year period, these etchings appear to be later editions and are in good overall condition consistent with age. Thomas Rowlandson (English, 1756 - 1827) was best known as a watercolor painter, illustrator and social caricaturist.
