BRONZE SCULPTURE OF A ALLEGORICAL
BRONZE SCULPTURE OF A ALLEGORICAL REPRESENTATION OF VICTORY IN THE STYLE OF GIAMBOLOGNA 12" x 9" x 26 ¾'' The female form holds a palm frond in her right hand, an award given to the victor, and a sprig of rosemary in her left, a symbol for remembrance. The nudity is not gratuitous, but represents humanity. The message is simple. Although man is excited by victory, the sacrifice of the victor or those who achieved the victory by losing their lives for a noble cause, should not be forgotten. Giambologna followed classical rhetoric in all his works. The upraised arm pointing to the heavens and the figure riding the winds provided by the god Zephyr, is woven into the message. Sculpture rests on a round onyx base.
