This is one of two examples cast for the Loyola University Law Library, New Orleans, Louisiana; the other example remaining in the collection of the University. • THOMASTON, ME-BUILT "JOSEPH B.
  THOMASTON, ME-BUILT "JOSEPH B. THOMAS" SHIP PAPERS Folder containing Original Documents Relating to San Francisco, Baltimore and Liverpool Voyages in 1884, under the command of Captain William J. Lermond; including crew lists, customs documents, receipts and bills of lading; in a small ship paper portfolio marked "R.L. Gillchrest & Co., Ship Brokers, 30, Chapel Street, Liverpool", 11" x 4 3/4" x 1". Exterior toned, with creases and tears; interior documents with creases and edge tears. The "Joseph B. Thomas" was a 234-foot three-mast merchant schooner launched from the Samuel Watts boatyard in Thomaston, ME on October 25 1881. Captain Lermond served as commander of this ship from 1884-1899. In 1908, she was sold to a California shipping company, and in 1910 she was registered as a towing barge in New York. On October 15, 1913, during a voyage from Philadelphia to Boston with a cargo of coal, she foundered off Cape Cod.
