HEYWOOD HARDY (1842-1933): HORSE
HEYWOOD HARDY (1842-1933): HORSE AND RIDER Oil on canvas relined signed and dated 1913 lower right inscribed on reverse Portrait of Capt. F.W. Forrester on Denis Aubern 6 years Winner of the Hunters Sweepstakes at Croxton Park April 10 1913. 36 x 28 in. (sight) 40 1/4 x 30 1/4 in. (frame). Note: Captain Francis Forester had horses and hounds in his blood. An avid sportsman winner of countless steeplechases throughout England and France and was master of the Quorn from 1905-1918 Captain Forester was the preeminent huntsman of his time. Nearly impossible to capture his likeness unless on horseback Captain Forester's portrait by Haywood Hardy depicts him at the Hunter's Sweepstakes at Croxton Park April 10th 1913 in which he placed first in his ancestral pink and black stripes.
