Mark Miller (American, 1919-2008)
Mark Miller (American, 1919-2008) Vintage advertising illustration depicting a genie maid who appeared from a teapot, possibly for Genie Deterrent, 1950s-1960s, gouache on illustration board, signed "Mark Miller", label on reverse, 18-1/4" x 14", good condition. Mark Miller was a prominent and prolific American illustrator in the Golden Age of illustration in the 1940s-1960s. He studied at the Chouinard Art Institute (now Cal Arts) and was hired as a wardrobe sketch artist for 20th Century Fox. He later became an advertising and magazine story illustrator with his work appearing in McCall?s, Good Housekeeping, Ladies Home Journal, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Woman?s Day and Saturday Evening Post. Many of his works were handled by agencies in New York City including Charles E. Cooper, Harry Watts Inc., and American Artists Agency. He also created a partnership with artist Dan Crowley. In the 1960s he decided to set aside his art to become a winemaker. He was the founder of Benmarl Vineyards. All Illustrations are acquired from the artist?s collection.

WARREN MACKENZIE TEAPOT W/ FINGER MARKS - STAMPEDWarren MacKenzie (American, 1924-2018). Studio pottery ceramic teapot with bamboo handle. Glazed stoneware with MacKenzie's iconic finger mark decoration along the sides. Stamped along the footrim.
Warren MacKenzie was a renowned Minnesota studio potter. A student of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, he is credited with bringing the functional Mingei tradition to the United States, and spreading it through his own art and mentorship of students during his long tenure at the University of Minnesota.
Height, including handle: 7 1/2 in x width: 7 in x depth: 6 in.
Condition:
The teapot is in good condition with no major chips, cracks, or dents. Under UV light, there is no sign of restoration. There are minor chips along the spout and a 1-inch long chip to the underside of its lid. Crazing and firing flaws throughout. Wear to the bamboo handle and the footrim, consistent with use and age. There are some minor glazing flaws, particularly along the interior. Please contact us for a detailed condition report.
