An intact Iznik polychrome 'tulip' tile Ottoman Turkey c.1550-1600 decorated with stylised tulips palmettes and arabesques in underglaze cobalt blue green and bole-red on a white slip ground 10.25ins. square Estimate ?2 000-3 000 compare examples in the Victoria & Albert Museum London including a two tile panel museum no. 189:30-1881 and a five tile panel museum no. 430 to D-1900. There are glaze losses around the edge one of which extends 1 inch into the tile across a palmette there are some small glaze losses to areas of the raised bole red and the odd small glaze loss to the green leaves and white slip ground. There is general scratching to the glaze all over the surface consistent with age. There are remnants of old cement to the back and edges and the odd minor chip to the pottery body.
