An unusual Italian infantry officer's sword by G. Pereth Verona the straight pipe back blade etched with trophies and crowned VRI cipher. Regulation steel hilt engraved and pierced with VRI cipher in its plated scabbard Estimate ?150-250 33.5 inch blade which has minor tarnished / rust patches but mostly clean and bright and clearly signed guard is generally tarnished throughout with expected dull patina slightly knocked at edge fish skin grip with some chipping and grazing but essentially ok. Scabbard tarnished and generally worn but structurally good. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. BRITISH 1897 GEORGE V INFANTRY OFFICER`S SWORDBritish 1897 pattern George V Officer's sword having a three-quarter basket hilt, both sides of the blade heavily engraved with symbolism and devices of the British Empire to about two thirds of the blade length. One side of the blade marked S&J Kitchin Makers Sheffield and the other the six-pointed star with the word "Proved" etched on the blade. Sword together with leather scabbard measure approximately 40-1/4" in length the blade 32-1/2" in length. George V swords are currently used as ceremonial swords in the British military.
