General Lewis B. 'Chesty' Puller, the most decorated U.S. Marine in American history, General Randolph Pate, 21st Commandant U.S.M.C., Tom C. Virginia stoneware jar, salt glaze stoneware, shoulder with cobalt decoration surrounding an imprinted cartouche with "Geo. W. Miller/Strasburg.Va.", surface with some green cast, 11-3/8 in. Large side and base cracks, rim with large flat chips. Deaccessioned from MESDA and Old Salem to benefit the Acquisition Fund.

VERY RARE CONFEDERATE RECRUITING BROADSIDE FOR THE 13TH VIRGINIA INFANTRY Charleston, Kanawha County (West Virginia), July 25, 1862, offering a $25 advance on a bounty paid to able-bodied men willing to enlist. A period manuscript note at the bottom of the sheet names the 13th Virginia, which went on to fight under Lt. General Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson, himself a native of Western Virginia. Presented behind glass in a vintage rustic oak frame (13-1/2 x 13-1/2 in.).

Hinges with cracks, corners slightly rubbed (one bumped), scattered light to moderate foxing throughout, map with extensive offsetting and browning, "First hot-pressed edition" on title page abraded and faint.
