20TH CENTURY SCARCE GORHAM STERLING VESTA 36 mm wide x 64 mm long Mostly known for it's flatware and hollowware, Gotham competed in all areas of the silver markets from thimbles to purses, against noted competitors like William Kerr and Unger Brothers. The art to master to create this striking piece is that of the die sinker.
Four die stuck pieces comprise the body and top, with only touchup engraving after
assembly. The interior is then gold gilded. The interwinding of a cobra is the theme,
with a blank oval area for monogram. This example bears in script D H L . Item number B1533
with symbol for 1902.
