VICTORIAN STAFFORDSHIRE PORCELAIN
VICTORIAN STAFFORDSHIRE PORCELAIN FIGURINEDESCRIPTION: Victorian Staffordshire Porcelain Figurine. This is a multicolor glazed porcelain Staffordshire figure of a sitting man in a Scottish kilt, in a resting position with his head resting on his left hand handcrafted in typical Staffordshire flatback victorian design. Staffordshire figures are a type of popular pottery figurine made in England from the 18th century onward. Most Staffordshire figures made from 1740 to 1900 were produced by small potteries and makers marks are generally absent. Most Victorian figures (1837 to 1900) were designed to stand on a shelf or mantlepiece and are therefore only modelled and decorated where visible from the front and sides. These are known as "flatbacks". CIRCA: Circa 1850. ORIGIN: England. DIMENSIONS: H: 11" W: 8" D: 4". CONDITION: Vintage condition. See lot description for details on item condition.
