Scattered surface crazing, lacking handle to mug and implement in proper left hand, base with old cracks, other minor surface losses and abrasions.

ANTIQUE GERMAN PORCELAIN 2L BEER STEIN MUG TANKARDBeautiful 2L German Beer Stein Mug Tankard was hand-painted. Scene of a couple in front of a wine cask and sheaf of rye. The man wears a brown apron which he can carry his working tool. The lady wears household one. Holding hand together. Decorated with ryes and leaves. The inscription "Hopfen u. Malz Gott erhalt's." means "Hops and malt, may God preserve them." from the growing to the preparation of beer. Marked "2L" and "468" on the body. The handle and lid are well engraved while the handle is hand painted too. Good condition with some aged related wears. Marked on the bottom. 15.75" H.

Beaded and embossed coving around the top and bottom of the stein, painted brown and black, illustration of a woman holding a stein in each hand. The saying in the banner translates as "A good drink makes the old young." 6 7/8" H x 3 1/4" Dia. Marked " 1087" on the bottom.
