Laid down on acidic card, toning, foxing, stains (affecting map), fading, tears and corner loss in margins; frame with abrasions. RICHMOND, VIRGINIA WASHINGTON MONUMENT: CASED 1/4 PLATE TINTYPE PHOTO OF ATTRACTIVE SOUTHERN WOMAN, CA. 1850 Middle Aged Woman of substantial means, in the original gutta perha case featuring the bronze equestrian portrait of Gen. George Washington designed by Thomas Crawford and completed under the supervision of Randolph Rogers after Crawford's death, opened in 1849. Features four prominent Virginians around the plinth who played critical roles in the American Revolutionary War. 5" x 4". Case is fine, photo has damage to small area in background.
