WARREN MACKENZIE WHITE/CLOWN WALLED BOWLWarren MacKenzie (American, 1924-2018). Studio ceramic pottery bowl. Stoneware with a white glaze and brown spots. The artist's original price tag is adhered along the interior of the bowl.
Warren MacKenzie was a renowned Minnesota studio potter. A student of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, he is credited with bringing the functional Mingei tradition to the United States, and spreading it through his own art and mentorship of students during his long tenure at the University of Minnesota.

A pair of hand-colored lithographs ? a three-quarter length portrait titled Naw-Kaw A Winnebago Chief and a full-length portrait titled Wa-Na-Ta Grand Chief of the Sioux and marked on print Lith. Printed & Cold. by J.T. Bowen above title with pages containing Wanata's biography from the publication included in pocket on verso both framed in handmade museum-quality frames; each 10 x 6.25 in. (Sight).These prints are from an early Octavo edition of Thomas L. McKenney and James Hall's History of the Indian Tribes of North America (later editions are published by Rice Rutter and Co.). Originally published in folio size from 1837-1844 the images were redrawn and published in the more affordable octavo size beginning in 1842. Condition: Not examined outside of frame.
