TWO WORKS BY MARION HUSE (AMERICAN, 1896-1967), "VIEW OUT THE STUDIO WINDOW, WINTER", OIL ON CARDBOARD, UNSIGNED, VIEW FROM INTERIOR...Two works by Marion Huse (American, 1896-1967), "View Out the Studio Window, Winter", oil on cardboard, unsigned, view from interior out a window to an urban area, the tops of roofs are covered with snow and icicles, the interior of the window sill has a row of bottles and still life objects while the bottom of the window has a figural bust, lantern and a pile of studio books, wear/loss to edges, damage from former nails resulting in loss of cardboard especially to the top and right side, 31" h. x 17 1/2" w.; along with "Man Wearing Hat", oil on canvas board, unsigned, bust length portrait of an old man wearing a brown hat and a brown suit, underneath the suit jacket a gray/white collared shirt, background is gray, unframed, wear/loss to edges, major paint loss to the LR, LL corner missing board, abrasions throughout, 24" h. x 20" w. [Works by Marion Huse are currently being offered at Vose Galleries and Childs Gallery, and have been sold by Spanierman Gallery in the past. 19TH C. VIEW OF BUILDINGS AT PEAK OF MOUNT WASHINGTON, 1881 A Rare Early unsigned Folk Art View of the Buildings at the Summit of Mt. Washington, the typical winds represented by the clothing and hats of the two small girls between the two buildings with panoramic view of the White Mountains behind, one of which (on the right) is an early view of the US Weather Station with metering devices on the roof, erected circa 1880. Pencil inscription verso under original backing boards reads "US Signal Station, Summit of Mt Washington". In remnants of reticulated gold narrow frame, matted and glazed, OS: 14" x 19", SS: 7 1/4" x 15", good condition, frame poor.
