Catalog Note: Originally related to the coups system of war honors among Plains warriors, roaches were made from deer, horse, badger, turkey neck, and porcupine guard hairs, which were entwined in a cock's comb effect. During the second half of the 19th century, this form of headdress spread from Eastern tribes to the Plains.

CHINESE FAHUA GLAZED GUANDI FIGURE, MING DYNASTY A Chinese fahua glazed Guandi figure, dating from the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). A warrior figure with fierce expression sits with right knee off to the side, his hands on his thighs and very alert. His robe is a turquoise Fahua glaze with accents of brown glazed armor on his breast plate and legs. Only the frontal area is glazed. H. 14 1/2" (36.8 cm) Provenance: Estate by Francis J.
