WELSH LADY TELYNORES HARPIST HN4968 - ROYAL DOULTON FIG...She wears the traditional Welsh costume from late eighteenth century of a red jacket, tall black hat, long skirt, and a white apron. Playing the harp.
Traditionally worn by countrywomen, farmworkers, and servants, the dress was designed for durability. Today, the costumes are worn by many schoolgirls as part of the celebrations on St. David's Day. The Harp that accompanies this figure is recognized by many as the national instrument of Wales and its musical heritage is deeply entrenched in the Welsh culture. The Harp's popularity today reflects the desire to keep this musical legacy alive. Made of Bone China. Her Welsh name is "Y Gymraes Telynores". Royal Doulton backstamp. WALES HN3630 - ROYAL DOULTON FIGURINERoyal Doulton backstamp.
Modeler Nada Pedley captures alluring and demure poses in this series for Royal Doulton each figure representing a country in the British Isles. The four figures in this collection, first introduced in 1995, were inspired by the spirit and character of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The Ladies of the British Isles were designed by one of Royal Doultons most celebrated artists, Valerie Annand. Made of the finest bone china, they were modeled and hand-finished with all the care and craftsmanship for which Royal Doulton is renowned. Even the most intricate details were painstakingly recreated, from the tiniest cameo brooch or buckle on a shoe, to bonnets, petticoats and bows. Each figure in the collection was hand-decorated with the utmost of delicacy. Each one subtly different, while the flowing lines of their gowns are a testament to the talents of Royal Doultons model makers. This collection represents the art of Royal Doulton at its very best! - Ladies of the British Isles
