In 1921, Werner furthered his studies in Paris and, in 1922, moved to Vienna where he studied at the Kunstinstitut. In this period, he was influenced by Futurism and the Post-Impressionists. From 1921-1923, Werner exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais in Paris. He also became a regular exhibitor at the Charlottenborg Academy in Copenhagen.
