17TH C. OAK DOWER CHESTA stained oak dower chest, the panelled and heavily carved base fronted by a trio of arched panels intersected by stemmed flower heads, the central panel dated "1665 AD", the panelled top opening on original 'snipe' hinges to a plain interior, lock mechanism missing. England dated 1665, probably West Country. Measuring, 29" high x 54.5" wide x 23.5" deep.

Charles I provincial Apostle spoon, mark a crowned cinquefoil (Jackson, Rev. ed., pg. 338, second photo), Norwich, c. 1650. Back of bowl prick-engraved ‘IB/1659’. Marked on bowl and three times on back of stem. Measures 7.375 h inches, 1.6 ozt.
James I provincial Apostle spoon, possibly for Christopher Roberts (West Country Silver Spoons, Kent, pg. 129 and Jackson, Rev. ed., pg. 324, line 10), Bridgewater, c. 1650. Nimbus of Apostle finial engraved ‘S.R/1761/RP’. Marked in bowl and back of stem with ‘CR’ mark, the stem also with mark of cup between four mullets. Measures 7.5 h inches, 1.7 ozt. Provenance: J.H. An original West Country Ales ceramic plaque, advertising ware originally affixed to the front wall of a British pub. Produced for the West Country Breweries, Gloucestershire, two of which commenced brewing in 1760, as evinced by the date. They were produced from 1958-1963.

WILLIAM MELLOR OIL ON CANVAS LANDSCAPEWilliam Mellor (British, 1851-1931) oil on canvas landscape; marked to bottom of frame "Bolton Woods, Yorkshire W. Mellor 1891"; signed LR; marked verso "The Wharfe Bolton Woods Looking Towards Beamsley"; measures approximately 35-3/4" x 47-1/4" with gilded frame and has a sight image of approximately 23-5/8" x 35-3/8"; painting in good overall condition with some chipping to frame. William Mellor was a Yorkshire-born landscape painter, who specialized in views of Wales and England's West Country. He is known for his meticulous depiction of trees and foliage; waterfalls were a favorite subject.

QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY ? ?????????of globular form, the exterior painted with elegant ladies in an outdoor setting, respectively carrying a wrapped qin musical instrument, ruyi sceptre, and a circular covered box, all under a ruyi cloud band on the shoulders, the base with a double circle in underglaze blue, the domed cover adorned with a baby wearing a bib, crawling on a large plantain leaf while holding a blossoming lotus in his right hand(1)19cm highProvenance: Private Scottish collection, inherited from current owner's grandmother. The late grandmother would buy from auctions in London or the West Country where she was based. The collection was formed in the mid-20th century.

QING DYNASTY, KANGXI PERIOD ??? ???????????????the steep rounded sides rising to a short upright rim and supported on a slightly tapered foot, the exterior vibrantly painted in rich and varied tones of underglaze blue with alternating ruyi-head and lotus motifs issuing from connected foliage stems,the slightly domed cover with similar decoration surrounding a knop in the form of a seated gilt-decorated Buddhist lion dog stepping on a brocade ball, the base with two concentric circles in underglaze blue(1)26.3cm highProvenance: Private Scottish collection, inherited from current owner's grandmother. The late grandmother would buy from auctions in London or the West Country where she was based. The collection was formed in the mid-20th century.With a cropped catalogue label stuck to the base of the interior, reading "[lot] 128 An 18th century Chinese circular china covered jar with gilt kylin knop and painted in underglaze blue with stylised flowers and scrolls 9 1/4"Note: It is rare to find blue and white bowls and covers of this form and in large size, whilst the decoration of Buddhist foo dog, ruyi head and lotus are associated with Buddhism. A pair of large blue and white lidded bowls of similar shape, decorated with qilin and dated to Kangxi period, are in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow, museum no. 38.1104. Another Kangxi example of similar form but slightly smaller in size (23.7cm high) and painted with landscape is in the Palace Museum, Beijing, no. 3568 Xin ?136735. A further comparable example decorated with 'Story of the white hare' was sold at Sotheby's New York, 'Kangxi: The Jie Rui Tang Collection' on 19 March 2019, lot 362.
