THREE ALKALINE GLAZED JUGS, WESTERN NC 19th century, stoneware, two are approximately half gallon, the larger has an Albany slip glaze (8 1/2 in.) (spout chipping); the smaller (7 3/4 in.) has traces of rutile in the glaze (poorly formed spout and mis-aligned handle); a one gallon jug marked "X" (with hole drilled to the underside (10 1/2 in.). All not signed.

Brushed and stenciled cobalt label ''5 Ka-Ton-Ka Mineral Spring Water Absolutely Pure Corry Pa.'' Some firing imperfections. 18 1/2''h. This was on display at the Westmoreland Museum in Greensburg Pennsylvania during their exhibit ''Made In Pennsylvania: A Folk Art Tradition''. See pg. 57 of the exhibition catalogue. It was also included in United States Decorated Stoneware - Book II by Dr. Carmen A. Guappone. Some minor areas where the glaze didn't adhere and minor wear throughout.
