A grouping of tall trees is in the midground to the left with a large lake and a mountain range in the background beneath a hazy blue sky. Signed "H Williams" lower right. Housed in a molded giltwood frame with ribbon and acanthus decoration having placard affixed to the lower sight edge attributing piece to "Henry Williams, b. 1860, fl. 1890s" with possible location "Early Morning, Westmoreland". Sight: 9 1/2" H x 13 1/2" W. Framed: 17" H x 21" W. 19th century.
Condition:
Overall very good condition with minute scattered abrasion to paint layer. Frame has been restored.

William Mellor was a Yorkshire-born landscape painter, who specialized in views of Wales and England's West Country. He is known for his meticulous depiction of trees and foliage; waterfalls were a favorite subject.
