AN EXCEPTIONAL AMERICAN FOLK ART CARVED AND PAINTED PIG...ca. 1890, in painted pine with pointed ears and curled tail, with incised hair, carved and green painted grassy plinth, with modern custom iron hanger, 33-1/2 x 73 x 4-3/4 in.
Note: Frank & Barbara Pollack's invoice describes this wonderful pig as a "powerful and imaginative expression of folk art." It is indeed an exuberant pig and of unusually large scale.
Condition:
old dry weathered surface with traces of pink to brown paint, scattered paint drips with traces of yellow, repaint to green grass (green over green), tail restored, back with later hanging brackets (scars from previous hangers, now removed), iron braces at legs (likely as made), glass eye replaced, crack at one rear foot

PIG CAROUSEL CARVING: A wonderfully carved and painted white pig jumper, possibly French in the style of Bayol. With large, upturned ears, painted eyes, and lolling tongue slightly protruding from mouth. This jumper has blue saddle and saddle blanket, with bow knotted ribbons tied at the neck and tail. Approx. 21.5'' h x 36'' w x 9.5'' w.
CONDITION: Tail has been replaced. Natural separation along joints.
