George Whitaker was a founding member of the Providence Art Club, and taught at Rhode Island School of Design.

JAMES ABBOTT MCNEILL WHISTLER (MA/UK/FRANCE, 1834-1903) "Suede Gloves" (Gants de Suede), portraying Whistler's sister-in-law, Ethel 'Bunnie' Philips, lithograph on paper, butterfly monogram in print on right, blind stamped lower left by The Studio Magazine, London, which published this plate in 1894, during Whistler's lifetime. After Whistler's death his executor had the stones erased after a limited, final edition was pulled. In gilt shallow cove frame, glazed under a two-toned green mat, OS: 20" x 16", SS: 9 3/4" x 5 3/4", toned, light stain at bottom.

Plate size 6 1/2" x 9 1/4", overall in a custom made Guido (Boston) frame 15 1/2" x 18 1/2". Good condition. Has not been removed from the frame.
