The Order of the Owls was founded in 1904 in South Bend, Indiana by John W. Talbot. Membership consisted of men across a variety of professions whose mission focused on improving the general welfare of members and their families.
According to U.S. Federal Census returns, Elmer Bain (1873-1942) owned a poultry farm in Union, Indiana. He and his wife, Ida, had two sons.

HOME STUDIO WORK STATION OF
HOME STUDIO WORK STATION OF WILBUR NIEWALDA three piece work station, comprised of two pine easels and a painting stand, from the home studio of painter Wilbur Niewald. The easels measure 88" x 24" x 28" and 84" x 24" x 24", and the stand measures 35" x 16" x 12". The stand is filled with brushes and tools as found.
Wilbur Niewald, celebrated painter and beloved member of Kansas City arts community, passed away in 2022. As a painter, Niewald tirelessly created honest and engaging plein air landscapes, still life, and portraiture; he was the recipient of the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in 2006, and the Charlotte Street Fund Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. As a professor and longtime chair of the Painting department at the Kansas City Art Institute, he helped guide generations of young artists.
Condition
The condition is as found, well used but solid.

Marleen Gold received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1979, influenced by her studies under Stanley Lewis, Wilbur Niewald, and Michael Walling. In 2022, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art celebrated her life and art with the retrospective "Deconstructing Marleen Gold," which related Gold's work to the likes of Lois Dodd, Wolf Kahn, and Fritz Scholder.

Very good condition. There is a negligible fold at the bottom right of the sheet, and some bending to the bottom left corner of the mat. The artist's pinholes are at each corner of the sheet.

A view of downtown Kansas City from Crossroads East by the revered painter that Nelson-Atkins Director Julian Zugazagoitia dubbed "the Patriarch of the Kansas City Art World." Not only was Niewald's fruitful body of work both exciting and influential, but his career as a member of the Kansas City Art Institute faculty, begun in 1949, saw him help to prepare several generations of contemporary painters.
Signed and titled to the reverse. Presented in a slim wooden frame with metal sight edge, measuring 27" x 33".
Provenance : From the collection of a Fortune 500 company, acquired from the artist.
Condition
Very good condition. No issues were observed under blacklight inspection. There is a little bit of wear to the frame.

A squat wheel-thrown pot with cover, with white crackle glazes with mottled brown speckling near the rim. Not signed.

Condition
Fair condition, noting a crack that runs around the interior ridge of the lid, some glaze pops, and a U-shaped firing hairline along one side of the body.

12-DRAWER CABINET BY WILBUR NIEWALDA cabinet of 12 drawers over 4 doors, crafted by artist Wilbur Niewald. Constructed from mixed woods, including birch plywood and walnut solids.
Measures 35" x 52" x 19".
Condition
The step-back base shows moisture-related damage including cracking plywood. General wear from use, including drill holes to one side. All drawers slide smoothly.

WALNUT DINING TABLE BY WILBUR
WALNUT DINING TABLE BY WILBUR NIEWALDA walnut trestle dining table hand-crafted by artist Wilbur Niewald. The table has a four-plank top and a base constructed with dowels and tenons. Niewald's Shaker-style table was created for use in his home.
Measures 30" x 72" x 30 1/2".
Condition
The top planks have bowed, with the planks separating at the seam as a result.

HOME STUDIO WORK STATION OF
HOME STUDIO WORK STATION OF WILBUR NIEWALDA three piece work station, comprised of two pine easels and a painting stand, from the home studio of painter Wilbur Niewald. The easels measure 88" x 24" x 28" and 84" x 24" x 24", and the stand measures 35" x 16" x 12". The stand is filled with brushes and tools as found.
Wilbur Niewald, celebrated painter and beloved member of Kansas City arts community, passed away last year. As a painter, Niewald tirelessly created honest and engaging plein air landscapes, still life, and portraiture; he was the recipient of the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in 2006, and the Charlotte Street Fund Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. As a professor and longtime chair of the Painting department at the Kansas City Art Institute, he helped guide generations of young artists.
Condition
The condition is as found, well used but solid.
