Victorian Silverplate Vegetable Dish, third quarter 19th century, by James Dixon and Sons, Sheffield, of circular form, with annulated rim and opposing handles en suite, the domed lid with reeded ring handle and opening to reveal a pierced grille, engraved, on the lid, "M.C.W./Sep. 30, 1860", monogrammed "M.C. B.", for Margaret Cyrilla (Brownson) Bisland (1839-1906) of St. Mary Parish, Louisiana and Adams County, Mississippi, h. 4-3/4", dia. 9-1/4", w. 12-1/2". Provenance: Gift of the Bisland family to the Terrebonne Historical and Cultural Society. The significance of the date on this dish is not known; perhaps it was for the birth of Mrs. Bisland's second daughter Lavinia, who was born sometime between 1859 and 1861.
