Robert Rogers Colonial Frontiersman ANS 1778 Robert Rogers (1731-1795). Colonial frontiersman and soldier who fought for the British in the French & Indian Wars and the American Revolution; founder and commander of Rogers' Rangers a highly effective militia in the French & Indian Wars which produced several important leaders in the Continental Army who fought against their former commander. ANS 1p on laid paper 8.25 x 6.5 in. August 20 1778 at Middleton addressed to William Arnold Inn Holder of Greenwich (RI) asking him to retrieve clothing and wafers from a box stored in the inn's cave and to forward the items to Mr. Gideon Mumford who will deliver them. Condition: Scattered stains and soiling with minor holes along the folds.

Will Rogers typed letter, photos: 36 lines to Mr. Watson Webb, undated, "I just learned…that you were in the insurance business. I had no idea in the world that you had any business outside polo, But it was a relief to know there was one Polo man that at least retained some degree of business, Now that old insurance racket is a great thing. They all think there [sic] house is going to burn, but they are seldom ever lucky enough to have it happen…my wife has a nephew…(who) has worked in this same business out in the buckwheat belt, and those old babies are hard to talk out of a premium even if they see the blas [sic] headed toward the hay mound…", signed "Will Rogers" in brown ink, 11 x 8-3/8 in.; with two studio photographs of Rogers, each a print with his signature in image, 6-3/4 x 4-7/8 in. and 9-1/2 x 7-1/2 in. William E. Williams (American, 1818-1897) Folk art painting. Williams executed a number of watercolors as a teen in 1833 living in Wrightstown, Bucks Co., Pa. He died without heirs in 1897. This naive depiction shows two well armed, engaged combatants. Image: 4 7/8" x 7". Good condition. These paintings were acquired from a descendant. There was an accompanying journal from the time describing Williams's activities and current events. It also makes mention of his later years as a gentleman farmer and his association with the Cadwalladers, a well known Revolutionary family.
