  Winchester Model 1873 Rifle .22 rimfire cal. short 24.5'' octagonal barrel S/N 302716B. Marked on the top flat of barrel 22 Short also on the cartridge carrier. Walnut buttstock and forearm. Condition: All metal is sharp and crisp. Barrel and magazine has a coat of shellac painted on the metal to preserve the metal underneath which it is a nice plum with traces of blue finish. Frame is sharp and crisp with a nice brown patina. Buttstock and forearm have a dark patina. Bore is good; will clean to better.

Condition: Barrel and magazine tube retaining 50% of the blue finish turning plum and mixing with some pitting. Frame retains 40% of the blue mixing with plum. Stock and forearm with some nicks and dings. Bore is dirty but will clean to better.

Magazine tube has 95% original blue finish with some browning where the slide rubs the tube. Frame is mostly brown with some case colors showing on the left side and on the triggerguard in the protected areas; the rest is blending to a nice patina. Stock and forearm have some nicks and dings but are untouched.

Breech stamped "Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven, Conn. U.S.A." and "5-90 W.C." Stock under finger lever stamped "Pat. Oct. 14 1884, Jan. 20 1885" with serial number. Stock stamped "Model 1886". Barrel length - 25 1/4", Overall length - 45". The serial # indicates a manufacture date of 1897. Condition: Many alterations, minor losses to wood and appropriate wear for age with semi-loose forestock, probably not-re-blued, and appears to have been drilled for sights.

The blueing is approximately 80% and the surface of the rifle has very light corrosion. There appears to be some minor corrosion on the interior of the barrel but the rifling appears to be okay. The sights can be raised. The firing mechanism appears to be intact and functional but the gun has not been tested.
