Oak architectural case with gilt metal mounts, having a domed top adorned with three finials, glass door flanked by Ionic pilasters, opening to silvered brass dial with cherub mask and scroll motif, marked "C. G. Iliffe, Barrow-in-Furness", raised on a conforming oak stand with architecturally-inspired carving and gilt metal mounts, on a stepped base. The movement is stamped ?W&H/Sch./1? for Winterhalder & Hofmeier of Schwarzenbach, Germany. Running when catalogued. A Winterhalder and Hoffmeier Mantel Clock A German oak mantel clock apprx. 15-1/2"H x 12"W x 8"D with architecular carved pilasters at either side plinth base carved foliate bas relief below the face and applied details above brass and silver metal face with roman numerals gilt spandrels blued steel hands hinged beveled glass door with brass surround hinged door behind with pierced metal grille and red velvet fabric. Each hour it strikes the number of hours on a single gong. The clock can be silenced by turning a small hand on the dial. Comes with pendulum and winding key.
